Beech wood impregnation with hydrolyzed wattle tannin

چکیده

Tannins and their toxic effects against various decay organisms have been interrelated for centuries. As natural products gained more interest, waste from several production fields abundant in tannins has yielded promising components wood preservation. In this work, the main approach was to split condensed into smaller fractions by chemical hydrolysis evaluate suitability beech impregnation. Commercial extract black wattle treated with mineral acid of low concentration. The volatile hydrochloric completely removed after reaction evaporation course freeze-drying. modified then applied as aqueous solution wood. water resistance not increased significantly, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed no evidence tannin successful bonding within cells. Nevertheless, strong leaching cycles, part accumulated fibers. Moreover, lyophilization found be a suitable technique eliminate acids temperature-sensitive extracts, such tannins. These findings could help development water-borne formulations protection, while using phlobaphene formation potential pathway autocondensation.

Modified Tannin Extracted from Black Wattle Tree as Environmental-Friendly Antifouling Pigment

The use of modified black wattle tannin as antifouling pigment is reported in this work. Mixture of tannin adsorbed in activated carbon (soluble fraction of tannin) and low soluble fraction of tannin was used as antifouling pigment. The soluble rosin resin was used as paint matrix. 13 C NMR analysis confirm the modification of black wattle tannin through the cleavage of tannin interflavonoid bo...

Evaluation of Axial Impregnation as an Alternative to Classical Wood Vacuum Pressure Impregnation Method

The evolution of laws on the use of biocide products has led to important changes in the field of wood preservation leading to an increasing interest for non “biocidal treatments” like thermal or chemical modifications. While thermal modifications become more and more common on industrial scale, development of chemical modifications progresses slowly. One reason for the challenges encountered i...

Research Note Sheep Ingestion of Water Containing Quebracho or Black Wattle Tannin

Ingestion of small amounts of condensed tannin (CT) by ruminants can produce valuable outcomes such as improved nitrogen use and reduced bloating, methane output, and gastrointestinal parasitism. However, many grasses and forbs contain little if any CT. The specific types of CT vary in plants and can have somewhat different effects on ruminants. Individual ruminants can respond differently to C...

Adhesive Penetration in Beech Wood Part I: Experiments

A study with synchrotron radiation X-ray tomographic microscopy (SRXTM) of PUR, PVAC, and UF adhesive bond lines in beech wood, bonded under various growth ring angles is presented. After determining the hardening characteristics of the adhesives, we evaluate the bond line morphologies, and the adhesive penetration into the wood structure. We find distinct bond line imperfections for the differ...

Chemical Modification of Beech Wood: Effect on Thermal Stability

Beech sawdust was reacted with phthalic (PA) and maleic (MA) anhydrides for chemical modification. The influence of reaction time and anhydride amount was investigated. IR spectra gave evidence of wood esterification. Thermogravimetric investigation of chemically modified wood indicated a better thermal stability (mainly for wood treated with phthalic anhydride) in comparison with the untreated...
